Chairman's welcome to SeaBritain 2005
The sea runs through so much of our lives in Britain.
From seaside resorts to commercial ports, from pleasure craft to the Royal Navy and from our maritime heritage to the environmental science of the sea, SeaBritain 2005 will celebrate with events, festivals and activities all around Britain's coastline and major waterways. At its heart is the Trafalgar Festival – a series of events and activities to mark the bicentenary of Admiral Lord Nelson's death and the Battle of Trafalgar.
National and local organisations are already preparing to take part in SeaBritain 2005. We hope local communities, towns, cities, ports, villages and any organisations with a connection to the sea will join these national celebrations with their own events – however small or large.
Please contact the SeaBritain 2005 team, based at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, for more information or to let them know your plans.
SeaBritain 2005 will be promoted nationally through PR, this website and marketing activity. All events and festival organisers are invited to provide details of their events and to use the SeaBritain 2005 branding and logo, to benefit from the nationwide promotion of the programme.
It's going to be a great year!
David Quarmby CBE
Chairman, SeaBritain 2005 Steering Group
